Example: Joe co*cker's With a Little Help from my Friends abso-f'n-lutey SLAPS but is now just the Wonder Years theme song. Remove that association and you can melt faces.

Lindsey Buckingham's Holiday Road a less-slapping example (National Lampoon's Vacation).

    Get the concept? WHAT ELSE?

I’m still standing - Elton John. Good song but the video is……we’ll say uncomfortable.

Old girlfriend used to love Dawson's Creek. As a result I would occasionally get sucked in. One episode Dawson's dad is tooling down the road and James Taylor's "Fire and Rain" is playing as he then loses control of the car and either drives into a truck or off a cliff and dies.

Now whenever I'm driving and hear it I have to turn it off out of fear I'll see the same fate.

Oh, and I love The Killers. I've seen them live a bunch of times. Now whenever I hear Mr. Brightside I think of 100,000 social misfits singing it in Ann Arbor and it makes me mad.

People love “Sweet Caroline” so I guess it can be considered great. But when you think about the lyrics and Neil Diamond’s inspiration behind it being a picture of 11 year-old Caroline Kennedy on a horse from a magazine, it is beyond creepy.

So…our whole family binged Dawsons’s Creek a couple of years ago and I will add detail re: how the dad died.

On that fateful evening, Dawson’s dad, Mitch, went to the store for something. He stopped to pick up an ice cream cone and started the drive home.

As he rounded a corner listening to James Taylor’s unique brand of folk-rock, he dropped the cone. Mitch looked down to grab it and the rest is history.

The actor wanted off of the show because he was not sure what the future of his role was, so the writers got that handled.

Thank you very much for this.

I can now listen to the song provided I'm not eating an ice cream cone.

Not exactly ruined, but the end of Eric Clapton's Layla now reminds me of mob guys getting murdered.

Stealers Wheel’s Stuck In The Middle With You, which I love, always makes me think of Resevior Dogs, so not “ruined”.

Demme soundtracks are great. Doesn't ruin it for me.

Edited to note that Goodbye Horses reappears in Demme's "Married to the Mob."

"Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts was a nice chill song until it was used in an ad for Summer's Eve feminine wash.

The 1988 Clapton version of After Midnight is a fantastic song but it brings to mind a beer commercial:

He did it to honor Caroline Kennedy. Nothing creepy about it dude, unless you are looking for creepy that is.

Always have loved Layla though. The backstory to the song is so interesting too.

Using Boomer songs for elevator music and commercials is so wrong.

Haha, ok. Sorry for hurting your infatuation with Sweet Caroline. Nothing creepy at all about those lyrics.

Diamond in 2007: “I wrote it about Caroline Kennedy”

Diamond in 2014: “Oh wait, it was actually about my wife.”

I never thought With a Little Help from My Friends was ever hurt by it being used as the theme song for the Wonder Years. It was a hit before the show and it remained a hit after. Plus the Wonder Years was a classic show from my youth.

Yeah, but multiple versions were used in multiple different beer commercials. One of them was the classic Neon Cowboy ad.

Might be mandela effect, but I swear the quicker Clapton version was used in a Coors commerical or something too.
